A Cannabis Rebrand Case Study

A cannabis farm was in need of a rebrand for its packaging to make it feel more modern and higher end.

As a freelancer, I was asked to take the existing design and make it look more up to date. It started with just the packaging but then quickly grew to a full redesign of the brand that was applied to the brochures, displays, and website.

The client was looking for an L.A. chill vibe but also wanted it to be simple and clean.

The packaging was changed from black to white. I took the existing colors and those stayed the category colors due to brand awareness. We did not want to confuse the customers.

I took a look at the original eyes and wanted to redraw them. They looked angry and we agreed that it needed a refresh.

After the packaging was finished, I was asked to give the website a makeover including picking new photography, and icons, and organizing the site into a clean look.

The website took all of the brand assets and affiliates and brought them all together. Since they are a site with links to purchase, I created a pop-up page to click through if you are 21+ or not.

In launching the new brand look, we needed to hit a date for printing so it could roll in to the new batch of jars being purchased.

For the display, we were trying to hit a key event for the brand to showcase all the flavors on one plinth.

The 5 pack was a new area for them and I was given a die line from a vendor to create in to but keep it on brand.

We created a brochure to help explain the essence of each flavor and helped educate the consumer on what would work for them.

I have learned so much about the industry by working with this team including legal limitations, industry standards, and the evolving terminology. As I have worked with others in the cannabis industry, this has been helpful to be aware and stay on top of updates.
